Why: I am part of the
electronics team for UCLA's Rocket Project team and was assigned the task to help design our first
ever wifi system.
Description:
For UCLA's 2016 rocket competition, the leaders decided that we should try having a wireless
ignition for our rocket. At first, many were skeptical -- including the competition sponsors. They
argued that having a wireless ignition for the launch is very dangerous because a wire may short-
circuit and launch the rocket preemptively. After some weeks of debate, the sponsors let finally decided
that we can design and use a wireless ignition system for the competition. I was part of the electronics
team, so I was one of the members that helped design and build our local Wifi system -- a Wifi system
that worked over 2000 feet!
